Compulsory Registration Scheme - Maier Vidorno Altios India

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has notified “Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Orders for bringing various Electronics & Information Technology products under Compulsory Registration Scheme.

Bureau of Indian Standards grants licence to the manufacturers to use or apply Standard Mark with unique R-number, through registration based on self-declaration of conformity for goods and articles as per Indian Standards. The grant of licence and its operation under Compulsory Registration Scheme are carried out as per the conformity assessment scheme under Scheme – II of Schedule – II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations 2018.

As per the Orders, no person shall manufacture or store for sale, import, sell or distribute goods which do not conform to the Indian standard specified in the order and do not bear the Standard Mark with unique registration number obtained from BIS.

MeitY keeps issuing Quality Control Orders (QCO) time to time for notifying new products under the ambit of certifications. The broad categories of products under Compulsory Registration Scheme are summarised as under:

  • Optical Disc Players with built in amplifiers of input power 200W and above

  • Telephone Answering Machines
  • Amplifiers with input power 2000W and above       
  • Electronic Musical Systems with input power 200W and above
  • Electronic Clocks with Mains Powers
  • Set Top Box
  • Automatic Data Processing Machine
  • Power Adaptors for IT Equipments
  • Power Adaptors for Audio, Video & Similar Electronic Apparatus
  • UPS/Invertors of rating≤5kVA
  • DC or AC Supplied Electronic Control gear for LED Modules
  • Sealed Secondary Cells/Batteries containing Alkaline or other non-acid Electrolytes for use in portable applications
  • Self-Ballasted LED Lamps for General Lighting Services
  • Fixed General Purpose LED Luminaries
