Laboratory Services
BIS has established a network of eight own laboratories. As it is neither physically possible nor economically viable for BIS laboratories to develop testing facilities for each and every product covered under BIS Product Certification Scheme, a Laboratory Recognition Scheme (LRS) has been formulated with the objective of having a sufficient number of outside laboratories in India and abroad to cater to the needs of Product Certification Scheme.
Sale of Indian Standards
BIS has published more than 19000 Indian Standards (IS) and Priced Publications (PP) which are presently available for sale. Every year, more than 400 new standards and 400 amendments are published. These standards are available to the general public and are subject to payment of charges/fees to BIS. Standard can be purchased online from the BIS website. One can register/login to purchase standard. Payment can be made by credit card/debit card. Net banking and other options for payment of charges are also available.
Consumer Affairs Activities
BIS as the National Standards Body of India develops Standards and implements them by operating various Conformity Assessment Schemes like Product Certification, Compulsory Registration Scheme, hallmarking and Management Systems Certification.
BIS is committed to providing services and benefits of Standardization and Conformity Assessment to all its stakeholders. BIS has a dedicated department for consumer-related activities. BIS Headquarters handles various consumer-related activities, including redressal of public grievances, registering consumer groups, and organizing various awareness programmes for the stakeholders of BIS.
